Gov. Gary Locke Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the following appointments to the state boards and commissions:

Citizens’ Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials

Scott Baxter of Greenacres, Joseph Blaney of Seattle, Debra Alyea of Lakewood, Dale Carlisle of Tacoma, and Donald Boggs, Sr. of Puyallup have been appointed to terms ending June 30, 2008

Ronald Hopkins of Edmonds, David Irwin of Seattle and Kamaria Hightower of Seattle have been reappointed to terms ending June 30, 2008. The Citizens’ Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials studies the relationships of salaries to the duties of members of the legislature, all elected officials of the executive branch of state government, and all judges of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Superior and District courts and shall fix the salary for each position.

Interagency Committee for State Employed Women

Adrianne N. Nash of Everett and Rosalund Jenkins of Olympia have been appointed to terms ending June 30, 2005.

Sandra Machado of Olympia, Cheryl Meyers of Olympia and Jamie Mullenix of Olympia have been appointed to terms ending June 30, 2006. The mission of the Interagency Committee for State Employed Women is to enhance the quality of life of state employed women by promoting good working conditions, improving employment opportunities and providing training.

Productivity Board

Kathleen Brockman of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending Oct. 31, 2006. Brockman is chief administrative officer for the Department of Social and Health Services.

Terry Teale of Olympia and Wanda Riley of Olympia have been reappointed to terms ending Oct. 31, 2006. The Productivity Board administers the employee suggestion program and reviews applications for incentive pay for state employees.

Professional Educator Standards Board

Yvonne Ullas of Yakima, Roger Erskine of Seattle and Sharon Okamoto of Seattle have been reappointed to terms ending May 31, 2008.

Carolyn Bradley of Deming and David Koyama of Bothell have been reappointed to terms ending May 31, 2006.

Jamila Norris of Seattle and Vicki Frei of Clarkston have been reappointed to terms ending May 31, 2005. The Professional Educator Standards Board advises state policymakers on issues related to the preparation, certification and ongoing professional development of educators in Washington state and administers the basic skills and subject knowledge tests required for teacher certification and the state's alternative routes to teaching program.

Puget Sound Council

Naki Stevens of Olympia and David Herrera of Union have been appointed to terms ending July 1, 2008. Stevens is director of programs for People for Puget Sound. Herrera is fisheries director for the Skokomish Tribe.

Doug Mah of Olympia has been appointed to a term ending July 1, 2007. Mah is a budget manager with the Washington State Department of Corrections and an Olympia City Councilmember.

William Dewey of Shelton has been reappointed to a term ending July 1, 2008. The Puget Sound Council recommends to the Puget Sound Action Team projects and activities for inclusion in the biennial work plan; recommends coordination of work plan activities with other agencies’ activities; and recommends proposed amendments to the Puget Sound Management
Plan.

Select Committee on Pension Policy

Pat Thompson of Everett and Douglas Miller of Raymond have been reappointed to terms ending June 30, 2007. The Select Committee on Pension Policy studies pension issues, develops pension policies for public employees in state retirement systems, and makes recommendations to the legislature.

Uniform Legislation Commission

John Cary of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending at the pleasure of the governor. Cary is an attorney. The Uniform Legislation Commission drafts and recommends uniform laws on subjects in which uniformity of legislation in the various states is desirable.


University of Washington Board of Regents

Alex Bolton of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending May 31, 2005. Bolton is a student at the University of Washington. The Board of Regents is the governing body for university.

Washington Commission on National and Community Service

Teresa Jones of Kenmore has been appointed to a term ending Feb. 15, 2006. Jones is a fire prevention specialist with the Northshore Fire Department. The Washington Commission on National and Community Service implements the federal National and Community Trust Act of 1993, which created AmeriCorps. The commission initiates activities or projects that expand and promote the concept of service beyond the scope of federal resources, and provides leadership and vision with local volunteer organizations, civic and community groups and units of government to make service a part of the lives of all of the citizens of the state.
