Gov. Gary Locke Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the following appointments to state boards and commissions:

Advisory Council on Historic Preservation

Barbara Loomis of Kirkland has been reappointed to a term ending Oct. 12, 2007. The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation reviews nominations for the state and national register of historic places and advises the governor and department on matters relating to historic preservation.

Affordable Housing Advisory Board

Mary Hunt of Coulee City and Sam Anderson of Bellevue have been reappointed to terms ending Jan. 26, 2008. The Affordable Housing Advisory Board serves as principal advisory body to the Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development on housing and housing-related issues

Arts Commission

Stephen Sneed of Seattle and Christopher Bruce of Pullman have been appointed to terms ending July 28, 2005. Sneed is manager of programming for Seattle Center Productions at Seattle Center. Bruce is director of the Museum of Art at Washington State University. Jean Mandeberg of Olympia has been appointed to a term ending July 28, 2006. Mandeberg teaches fine arts at The Evergreen State College. Monte Bridges of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending July 28, 2008. Bridges is superintendent of the Puget Sound Educational Service District. The Arts Commission promotes the growth and development of the arts within the state; advises state agencies and officials on matters pertaining to the arts; and administers appropriations set aside for acquiring works of art for public buildings.

Board of Nursing Home Administrators

Carol F. Hart of Grapeview has been appointed to a term ending May 28, 2009. Hart is retired from the Mason County Auditor’s Office. The Board of Nursing Home Administrators administers licensure or registration process for nursing home administrators.

Boundary Review Board – Benton County

Bradley Dell of Richland has been appointed to a term ending Jan. 31, 2007. Dell is executive director of the Washington Children’s Reading Foundation. The Boundary Review Boards has jurisdiction over municipal annexations, incorporations, disincorporations, and creation or annexation of certain special districts, as well as extensions of sewer and water services outside the city or district.

Community Economic Revitalization Board

George Raiter of Kelso has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 2, 2007. Raiter is a Cowlitz County commissioner. The Community Economic Revitalization Board’s objectives are to strengthen the economy in areas of the state that have experienced high unemployment rates or below-average economic growth; to encourage economic diversification within our state; and to provide incentives for expansion of employment opportunities.

Hanford Area Economic Investment Fund Committee

Matt Watkins of Pasco has been appointed to a term ending June 28, 2007. Watkins is a software engineer for Lockheed Martin Information Technology and a Pasco city councilmember. The Hanford Area Economic Investment Fund Committee accepts loans or grants from federal and state agencies for funding Hanford-area revolving loan funds, infrastructure projects, or economic development projects, and recommends a spending strategy for those funds.

Jail Industries Board

Jim Berrios of Kent has been reappointed to a term ending Feb. 15, 2006. The Jail Industries Board offers advice to cities and counties in developing, promoting and implementing consistent, safe and efficient offender work programs.

Puget Sound Council

Scott McCreery of Bellingham has been appointed to a term ending July 1, 2008. McCreery is a senior environmental engineer at BP Cherry Point Refinery. The Puget Sound Council recommends to the Puget Sound Action Team projects and activities for inclusion in the biennial work plan; recommends coordination of work plan activities with other agencies’ activities; and recommends proposed amendments to the Puget Sound management plan.

Washington Commission on National and Community Service

Ronald Kurtz of Spokane and Adam James Cornell of Everett have been appointed to terms ending Feb. 15, 2007. Kurtz is director for the National Arc AmeriCorps Project – The Arc of Spokane. Cornell is a deputy prosecuting attorney for Snohomish County. The Washington Commission on National and Community Service implements the federal National and Community Trust Act of 1993, which created AmeriCorps.
