Gov. Gary Locke’s Statement on Recommendation of New UW President

OLYMPIA – March 19, 2004 – Gov. Gary Locke today released the following statement about the decision by University of Washington regents to unanimously recommend Mark Emmert as the university’s new president:

“This is great news – both for the university and the state of Washington. I understand that Mark is an outstanding leader who has done an exceptional job as chancellor of Louisiana State University.

“I hope all the details of his appointment can be worked out quickly so we can welcome Mark back home to Washington, and his alma mater.

“I look forward to working with Mark and supporting him any way I can.”
