Gov. Gary Locke’s Statement on Congressional Delegation’s Support of the ‘Modified Montana’ Primary

Gov. Gary Locke today issued the following statement on U.S. Representatives Dunn, Hastings, Dicks, Baird, Inslee, Larsen and McDermott’s support for the “modified Montana” primary system:

“I am pleased our congressional delegation has strongly endorsed the modified Montana system. The bipartisan agreement on this issue illustrates the widespread support for the Montana approach.

“The modified Montana system would be a superior choice for our state’s voters. It maintains voter privacy and choice and avoids the tremendous uncertainty that would result from adopting the Louisiana system.

“I hope the state House of Representatives will agree that the many advantages of the modified Montana system greatly outweigh the negative consequences that the Louisiana system will create.

“I am looking forward to working with House members to pass the modified Montana system as soon as possible.”
