Gov. Gary Locke Appoints Craddock Verser to Jefferson County Superior Court

Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Port Townsend attorney Craddock Verser to the Jefferson County Superior Court.

“I am pleased to add Craddock to a branch of government that is so important to our democratic system,” Locke said. “He has the legal skills and the breadth and depth of experience necessary to make an excellent Superior Court judge.”

Verser is a partner at a law firm in Port Townsend. He handles a variety of different criminal and civil matters, including felony and misdemeanor defense, family law, estates, probate and personal injury and property disputes. He previously worked as the public defender in Jefferson and Stevens counties.

Verser is one of 24 state bar examiners, writing and grading bar exam questions in many areas of law. He also volunteers with the Jefferson County Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Program.

“I am honored and humbled by Governor Locke’s appointment of me as Jefferson County’s Superior Court judge,” Verser said. “I am committed to maintaining the very high standards of judicial excellence and conduct exemplified by former Judge William E. Howard and the late Judge Thomas J. Majhan.”

Verser received his bachelor’s degree in economics and his master’s in education from the University of Virginia. He attended law school at Gonzaga University, graduating cum laude. He was admitted to the Washington Bar in 1980.

Verser will replace Judge Thomas Majhan, who passed away in January.
Locke recognized the tremendous loss felt in Jefferson County by Judge Majhan’s death. “Judge Majhan had a profound effect on this community. He will be missed,” Locke said. “But he has left a wonderful legacy in Jefferson County for us all to admire and appreciate.”
