Gov. Gary Locke Announces Appointments to Transportation Commission

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the appointments of A. Daniel O’Neal of Mason County and Dale Stedman of Spokane to the Washington State Transportation Commission (WTC). The Transportation Commission appoints the secretary of the Department of Transportation and provides oversight to the department.

O’Neal will serve on the WTC for a term ending June 30, 2009. He is on the board of directors of The Greenbriar Companies, a railroad car leasing and manufacturing company. He is chairman of the Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board and a board member of the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group.

O’Neal chaired the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C., and was transportation counsel to the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Whitman College and a law degree from the University of Washington.

Stedman will serve on the WTC for a term ending June 30, 2008. He was president and CEO of the Inland Automobile Association from 1967 until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the 43-million member American Automobile Association’s (AAA) national board for 12 years and he chaired six national committees, including highways, safety and policy.

Stedman served on the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Transportation, and chaired its Investment Strategies Committee. He is currently secretary of the Spokane Area Good Roads Association and vice president of the Washington State Good Roads and Transportation Association. Stedman received his bachelor’s degree from Washington State University.
