Gov. Gary Locke Appoints New Superintendent of Washington School for the Deaf

Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Todd Reeves as the new superintendent of the Washington School for the Deaf.

Reeves will oversee the implementation of the school’s educational and residential policies. His appointment came at the recommendation of the school’s Board of Trustees.

“I agree with the school board that Todd is the right choice and demonstrates characteristics ideally suited to lead the school,” Locke said.

Reeves most recently served as the director of special education for Tacoma public schools, a position he reached after serving the previous two years as the assistant director of special education. He also served as program administrator for special education for the Peninsula School District and education program supervisor for the Oregon School for the Deaf.

“I’m honored to be serving in this new role and look forward to its challenges,” Reeves said.

Reeves will start his new position on August 11. He fills the position recently held by Len Aron, who resigned in January 2003.

Reeves earned his undergraduate degree in communication disorders at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., and his masters in deaf education at Lamar University in Texas. He also received his law degree with honors from the University of Washington.
