Gov. Gary Locke’s Chief of Staff to Leave Position for Private Sector

Gov. Gary Locke today announced that his chief of staff, Fred Kiga, is leaving his position to accept a job in the private sector.

“I appreciate Fred’s service during a very challenging time in state government,” Locke said. “Fred was instrumental in organizing the work groups that developed our Priorities of Government budget strategy, the no-general-tax-increase budget and the Boeing 7E7 team. He was a great chief of staff and will be missed, but we wish him well as he re-enters the private sector.”

Kiga has served as the governor’s chief of staff since November 2001. Prior to that, he served for four years as director of the state Department of Revenue.

“It has truly been an honor serving the governor,” Kiga said. “This job was clearly the opportunity of a lifetime, and I will miss all of the relationships that I have developed while in Olympia.”

Kiga was approached by Frank Russell Company and accepted a job with the Tacoma-based investment management firm effective Aug. 18.

Locke is in the process of filling the chief of staff position.
