Gov. Gary Locke’s Statement on Marc Gaspard

OLYMPIA – July 3, 2003 – Gov. Gary Locke today issued the following statement on the resignation of Marc Gaspard as executive director of the state Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB):

“I was disappointed to learn of Marc Gaspard’s resignation from the Higher Education Coordinating Board and his departure from state government. Marc has long been a champion of higher education and has served Washington students, and the state, admirably.

“Marc is truly dedicated to improving higher education for Washington students. I appreciate his assistance in making my Promise Scholarship program a reality, and helping some of our best high school graduates from low- and middle-income families get into college.

“I also had the privilege of serving with Marc in the state Legislature.

“Marc has devoted more than 30 years of his life to public service and I wish him well as he enters the private sector.”
