Four Northwest Governors to Meet in Boise to Discuss Salmon and Energy Issues

OLYMPIA – May 29, 2003 – Govs. Gary Locke of Washington, Dirk Kempthorne of Idaho, Ted Kulongoski of Oregon and Judy Martz of Montana will meet in Boise on June 5 to continue the collaborative state discussions on Columbia River power issues and salmon recovery in the Pacific Northwest.

The governors’ meeting will focus on protecting the benefits of the Columbia River power system and on fish recovery in the Columbia River Basin.

In July 2000, the governors of the four states developed a landmark series of consensus policy recommendations on fish recovery in the Columbia River basin. The governors will also discuss new developments in the federal Biological Opinion covering salmon recovery.

The meeting will be held at the Idaho State Capitol, and will include a photo opportunity at the beginning of the session and media availability with the four governors when the meeting concludes.

Further details on coverage of the meeting will be available early next week.
