Gov. Gary Locke Appoints Beverly Grant to Pierce County Superior Court

Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Tacoma attorney Beverly Grant to the Pierce County Superior Court.

“I am pleased to add Beverly to a branch of government that is so important to our democratic system,” Locke said. “Beverly has the right combination of skill, intelligence and life experience to fill this vacancy.”

Grant has more than 25 years of legal experience. She began her career as senior law clerk for Judge Jack Tanner in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. Grant has practiced federal civil litigation, criminal defense and later developed a specialization in employment law. She handled several high-profile harassment and discrimination cases.

“I am extremely delighted to have been selected to serve the people of Pierce County,” Grant said.

Grant attended the University of Washington for both her undergraduate and legal education and was admitted to the Washington Bar in 1978.

Grant will replace Judge Karen Strombom who has served on the bench since 1990. Strombom has been appointed to an eight-year term as a federal magistrate judge.

“We greatly appreciate Judge Strombom’s years on the bench,” Locke said. “The federal court’s gain is definitely a loss for the Superior Court.”
