Gov. Gary Locke Appoints Ronald Culpepper to Pierce County Superior Court

Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Pierce County District Judge Ronald Culpepper to the Pierce County Superior Court to replace retiring Judge Terry Sebring.

“Ron has been a great asset on the district court bench,” said Locke. “He has the legal skills, the demeanor and the experience to be a top-notch Superior Court judge.”

Culpepper, 53, has 25 years of legal experience. He began his career in private practice with an emphasis in family law, bankruptcy and personal injury. In 1987, Culpepper became a Pierce County District Court judge and has made thousands of court decisions during the past 15 years. He has served on numerous committees of the District and Municipal Court Judges Association and has participated in community organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of South Puget Sound and the Pacific Harbors Council Boy Scouts.

“I’m greatly honored and thankful to Gov. Locke for this appointment,” said Culpepper. “I will do my best to justify his confidence in me and do my utmost to serve the people of the county.”

Culpepper attended the University of Washington for both his undergraduate and legal education. He has been a member of the Washington State Bar Association since 1976.

Culpepper will replace retiring Judge Terry Sebring who has served on the bench since 1990. Locke commended Sebring for his distinguished judicial and community service and acknowledged his efforts in the administrative functions of the court.

“We greatly appreciate Judge Sebring’s years on the bench,” Locke said. “He will be missed.”
