Gov. Locke's statement on the passage of ESB 6188

"I am pleased that the Legislature passed Engrossed Senate Bill 6188 this afternoon. Streamlining the environmental permitting process is another crucial reform that will speed up the delivery of transportation projects, yet maintain environmental protections. As I have always said, transportation efficiencies must precede a transportation revenue package. By taking action on this transportation reform, the Legislature has taken an important step on the road to relieving the state's traffic congestion.

"I want to thank transportation committee chairs Senator Mary Margaret Haugen and Representatives Ruth Fisher and Maryann Mitchell, and particularly members of the legislative task force who tackled this issue: Senators Jim Horn, Ken Jacobsen, Margarita Prentice and Dan Swecker, and Representatives Gary Chandler, Doug Ericksen, Phil Rockefeller and Sandra Romero. I also would like to thank the state departments of Transportation, Ecology and Fish and Wildlife, the Association of Washington Cities and the Washington State Association of Counties for their help in passing this important piece of legislation."
