Locke announces boards and commissions appointments

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments for several boards and commissions.

Columbia River Gorge Commission
The commission works with the U.S. Forest Service to plan and oversee the 253,000-acre Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

Katharine Sheehan, of Prindle, has been reappointed to a term ending June 12, 2005.

Gambling Commission
The commission licenses, inspects, investigates and audits organizations, businesses and individuals participating in authorized gambling activities.

Elizabeth McLaughlin, of Everett, has been reappointed to a term that ends June 30, 2007.

Hanford Area Economic Investment Fund Committee
The committee accepts loans or grants from federal and state agencies for the purpose of funding Hanford-area revolving loan funds, infrastructure projects and economic development projects.

Appointed to an additional term are Benton County Commissioner Max Benitz Jr., of Prosser, Pasco City Councilwoman Carol Strode, of Pasco, and LoAnn Ayers, of Pasco. Their terms expire June 28, 2004.

Kennewick City Councilman Paul Parish, of Kennewick, has been appointed to a term ending June 28, 2004.

Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board
The board is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases among employees in the state.

Edwin C. Hatch, of Silverdale, is a training supervisor for Pacific Maritime Association. His term ends Dec. 31, 2004.

Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities and their Families
The council advises and assists the Department of Social and Health Services to coordinate, develop and implement policies dealing with early intervention services.

Andrea Sheehan, of Sunnyside, works as disability/mental health coordinator for the Washington State Migrant Council. Her term ends Jan. 1, 2004.

National and Community Service Commission
The commission implements the federal National and Community Trust Act of 1993.

Barbara Stephenson, of Poulsbo, has been reappointed to a term that ends Feb. 13, 2003.

Stella Godinez, of Kennewick, Paul Youmans, of Longview, Walter Howe, of Medina, and Othene Bell, of Kennewick, have all been reappointed to terms ending Feb. 15, 2004.

Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission
The commission regulates the competency and quality of nursing care professionals.

Appointed to an additional term are Frank Maziarski, of Shoreline, and Roberta Schott, of Wenatchee. Both terms expire June 30, 2005.

Personnel Resources Board
The board governs the state merit system for state agency personnel.

Daniel Graczyk, of Port Townsend, retired as executive director of logistics for the Seattle School District. His term expires Jan. 1, 2007.

Rehabilitation Advisory Council
The council reviews, analyzes and advises the Department of Social and Health Services on the general vocational rehabilitation program.

Louis Bunkelman, of Moses Lake, works as an administrator for the Department of Social and Health Services. Ron Hertel, of Olympia, is a special education program supervisor. Cassandra Johnston, of Olympia, is a parent participation coordinator for PAVE. Jill Foster, of Fircrest, works for The Boeing Company. All have been appointed to terms expiring Sept. 22, 2002.

Joan Freimund, of Olympia, retired as a clinical manager for mental health services. James Marc Anderson, of Olympia, is a vocational rehabilitation counselor with the Department of Social and Health Services. They will fill terms ending Sept. 22, 2001. Both will fill an additional term that ends Sept. 22, 2004.

Real Estate Appraiser Commission
The commission examines and licenses real estate brokers and salespeople.

John Fredrickson, of Walla Walla, is the owner of Associated Appraisers. Cheryl Farivar, of Leavenworth, is the residential department manager for Pacific Appraisal Associates. Both have been appointed to terms which expire Dec. 22, 2006.

State Employee Combined Fund Drive Committee
The committee oversees the distribution of money donated by state employees to various charitable organizations.

Mary Henley, of Tumwater, is the executive assistant to the commissioner of the Employment Security Department. Marcia Garrett, of Tacoma, is the executive director of Washington State University West. Their terms expire Jan. 1, 2002.

Ted Sturdevant, of Olympia, is the special assistant to the governor for community relations. William Ponder, of Cheney, is the associate vice president of enrollment services for Eastern Washington University. Their terms expire Jan. 1, 2004.

State Independent Living Council
The council develops and submits the state plan for Independent Living.

Jim Lindley, of Puyallup, is currently the director for the Center for Independent Living. His term expires Sep. 24, 2003.
