Gov. Locke Calls on Boeing and Machinists to Resolve Differences to Avert Potential Strike

OLYMPIA-- Gov. Gary Locke today called on The Boeing Company and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers to make every effort to avoid a possible strike later this week.

The governor spoke by phone today with Alan Mulally, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Mark Blondin, president of the Machinists, to encourage both sides to resolve their differences and avert a work stoppage.

“The Boeing Company and the Machinists make the finest commercial aircraft in the world, and our sincere hope is the two sides will come together in the next couple of days to resolve their differences,” Locke said.

“I know Alan Mulally and Boeing are committed to our state as are the Machinists. No one wants to see a strike, and all sides need to do everything possible to avert one.”
