Gov. Locke’s statement reaffirming no terrorism threat

OLYMPIA – “This afternoon I talked with Governor Tom Ridge, director of the Office of Homeland Security, and he assured me that, based upon all known CIA and FBI intelligence information, there is no credible threat of terrorism against Washington state.

“I have personally reviewed copies of the photographs recovered in Afghanistan and have been assured by Governor Ridge that there are no other known documents pertaining to Washington state. There was one photo of the Space Needle and no photos of Grand Coulee Dam or any other dams or power-generating facilities in Washington.

“Although it is prudent to maintain heightened vigilance, and we are doing so, there is no imminent threat to Washingtonians.

“Again, I want to reassure the people of our state that we are well prepared to prevent and respond to any threats of terrorist attacks and we are continuing our close coordination with federal and local officials.”
