Gov. Locke’s statement on Evergreen Forest land transaction

“Today’s announcement that the Evergreen Forest Trust and the Weyerhaeuser Co. have reached agreement on the sale and transfer of 100,000 acres of forestland in the Cascade foothills of King and Snohomish counties is good news for the people of Washington state.

“This is the trust’s first venture into land conservation and the organization has selected a marvelous piece of land to preserve. The Evergreen Forest at Snoqualmie, as it will now be known, is home to the Northern Spotted Owl and the Marbled Murrelet and provides habitat for variety of salmon and other wildlife.

“On behalf of the citizens of Washington, I thank the Weyerhaeuser Company, members of the Cascade Land Conservancy and the Evergreen Forest Trust for arranging this transaction and preserving this forest for generations to come.”
