Gov. Christine Gregoire announces appointments to boards and commissions

OLYMPIA � June 2, 2005 � Gov. Christine Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Bellingham Technical College Board of Trustees
James Cunningham of Bellingham has been reappointed to a term effective May 26, 2005, ending Sept. 30, 2007. The board is the governing board for one of the state's 30 community and technical college districts.

Board of Volunteer Firefighters and Reserve Officers
Ken Boad of Belfair has been reappointed to a term effective June 2, 2005, ending June 1, 2011. The board supervises and controls the administration of the Volunteer Firefighters' Relief and Pension Act.

Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board
Andrew Johnson of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective May 26, 2005, ending June 30, 2006. The board designates strategic freight corridors within the state, reviews and evaluates freight mobility funding applications and makes recommendations to the governor and Legislature on projects that will enhance freight mobility.

Governor�s Affirmative Action Policy Committee
Terrie Ashby-Scott of Spokane has been reappointed to a term effective June 1, 2005, ending May 31, 2008. Elliot Silvers of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective June 1, 2005, ending May 31, 2008. Silvers is a legislative coordinator for the Washington Association of Realtors, and former offensive lineman for the San Diego Chargers and University of Washington Huskies. The committee serves as a policy and review body for the state's affirmative action program, reviewing and approving state agency affirmative action plans.

Governor�s Council of Economic Advisors
Grant Forsyth of Spokane and Kim Pearman-Gillman of Veradale have been appointed to terms effective May 31, 2005, ending at the governor�s pleasure. Forsyth is an assistant professor of economics with Eastern Washington University. Pearman-Gillman is the senior vice president of Avista Development. The council advises the governor on state financial matters, including the state budget, tax policy, the issuance of debt and debt management, cash management, and other fiscal matters that reflect upon the overall financial condition of the state.

Higher Education Facilities Authority
Heyward Watson of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective May 25, 2005, ending March 26, 2009. The board authorizes the issuance of tax-exempt bonds and loans proceeds to private, nonprofit institutions of higher education.

Washington State Health Insurance Pool
William Perkins of Olympia has been appointed to a term effective May 31, 2005, ending May 31, 2008. Perkins is the president of GHB Insurance. The insurance pool provides access to health insurance for people who are unable to obtain coverage in the private marketplace. The board of directors develops and approves a uniform screening mechanism for subscribers to enter the pool.

Washington Technology Center Board of Directors
Linden Rhoads of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective May 26, 2005, ending June11, 2008. Rhoads co-founded several technology companies including AdRevelance, Singing Fish.com and InfoAccess. She is currently the director of Seattle Ventures, which assists technical companies in their early stages of development. The board provides a collaborative effort between the state's universities, private industry and government in performing and commercializing research on a statewide basis to benefit the economic vitality of the state.
