Gov. Gregoire celebrates the opening of Cama Beach State Park

For Immediate Release: June 21, 2008

CAMANO ISLAND Gov. Chris Gregoire joined local officials and dignitaries today to celebrate the grand opening of Cama Beach State Park.

The parks opening represents a significant milestone for the state parks system, which hasnt opened a park since 1997, when the Rasar State Park was opened in Skagit County.

Today we arent just opening a park. We are opening a place where memories live and memories will be made for the future, Gregoire said. I have learned that the fondest, warmest, most enduring memories come from the simple things in life and the time spent together as a family.

Cama Beach offers visitors a chance to step back in time to a 1930s-era Puget Sound fishing resort, complete with waterfront cedar cabins and bungalows. The buildings have been refurbished with modern conveniences, and are available year-round for rent. Visitors can also learn more about wooden boats, sailing and Washingtons maritime history from programs offered through the Center for Wooden Boats.
