Gov. Christine Gregoire announces appointments to boards and commissions

OLYMPIA � May 25, 2005 � Gov. Christine Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Citizen�s Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials
James Clark of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective May 11, 2005 ending June 30, 2008. The commission studies the relationship of salaries to the duties of members of the legislature, all elected officials of the executive branch of state government, and all judges of the supreme court, court of appeals, superior and district courts, and shall fix the salary for each position.

Commission on African American Affairs
Joseph Hooks of Tacoma has been appointed to a term effective May 11, 2005 ending November 20, 2005. Hooks is a staff assistant in the office Representative Adam Smith�s office and is involved in Tacoma�s Urban League, Tacoma Reads Together and Pierce County Meth action team. Dr. Karen Johnson of Monroe has been appointed to a term effective May 23, 2005 ending November 20, 2005. Johnson is the former director of Tri-Love Ministries and has worked with Seattle public schools to develop after-school, character development and mentoring programs; including the Judkins Park reading program, inspiring African � American children to read.

Governor�s Affirmative Action Policy Committee
Lourdes (Alfie) Alvarado-Ramos has been appointed as chair to a term effective May 16, 2005, ending May 31, 2007. Alvarado- Ramos is the assistant director for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The board serves as a policy and review body for the state's affirmative action program; reviewing and approving state agency affirmative action plans.

Information Services Board
Cindi Yates of Olympia has been appointed to term effective May 23,2005 ending at the Governor�s pleasure. Yates also serves as the Executive Director at the Department of Revenue. The board develops standards, policies and procedures for managing state information services.

Rehabilitation Council for the Blind
Mary- Louise Colwell of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective May 5, 2005 ending September 15, 2005. Colwell is the Program Supervisor for Special Education for the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The council advises the director of the Department of Services for the Blind.

Washington State Board of Accountancy
Sharron O�Donnell of Sammamish has been reappointed to a term effective June 10, 2005 ending June 9, 2008. Laurie Tish of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective June 10, 2005 ending June 9, 2008. Tish is the Director of Deloitte & Touche, LLP, overseeing the public sector for the western region of the firm. She is a member of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, and chair of the Government Accounting and Auditing committee. The board regulates public accounting through examinations, licensing, complaint investigation and continuing professional education.
