Flag lowering honors fallen police officer

OLYMPIA Gov. Chris Gregoire has directed that flags at all Washington state agency buildings be lowered to half-staff Thursday, May 15, during the National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset Thursday or first thing Friday morning, May 16.

The National Peace Officers Memorial Day commemorates the service and sacrifice of America's law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

Washington owes a great debt of gratitude to our state, federal, local and tribal law enforcement officers, who put themselves on the line for us every day, said Gov. Chris Gregoire. We also are deeply indebted to their families. Especially to the families of our fallen officers, we say clearly that we honor you and open our hearts to you.
