Gov. Gregoire�s statement on campus safety

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today issued the following statement on the state Senate�s passage of campus safety legislation:

�I want to thank the state Senate for passing campus safety legislation. Yesterday�s tragic loss of life at Northern Illinois University is a stark reminder that we must take action to improve safety for students, faculty and staff at our colleges and universities. My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and colleagues of the victims of yesterday�s senseless attack.

�It is my hope that our campus safety legislation will bolster the efforts our colleges and universities are making to enhance campus safety. We must do all we can to help prevent and minimize tragedies like those at Virginia Tech, University of Washington and Northern Illinois from happening again.�
