Gov. Christine Gregoire appoints executive director of Commission on Hispanic Affairs

OLYMPIA � May 11, 2005 � Gov. Christine Gregoire today appointed Uriel Iniguez of Olympia as executive director of the Commission on Hispanic Affairs. The commission works on public policy development and the delivery of government services to the Hispanic community.

Iniguez has been with the Washington Department of Corrections since 1989, most recently as field administrator. He served from June to December 2004 as interim executive director of the Commission on Hispanic Affairs.

Gregoire asked Iniguez to focus on two areas:
� Working with the commission and other stakeholders to reduce the school dropout rate of Hispanic youth.
� Working with farmers and farm worker groups to address impacts from the drought, with particular emphasis on the employment impacts.

His appointment is effective June 1.
