Gov. Gregoire appoints David Edwards

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of David L. Edwards of Aberdeen to the Grays Harbor County Superior Court. Edwards will fill the position to be vacated by Judge David Foscue on Jan. 2.

�David has impeccable, professional credentials and is an excellent community leader,� said Gov. Gregoire. �He has the perfect temperament for the job, plus the depth and breadth of experience the bench needs.�

Edwards, 59, has been a partner at the law firm of Edwards & Hagen, P.S., for 13 years. He served in the Grays Harbor Prosecuting Attorney�s Office from 1974 to 1978, where he was the chief criminal deputy prosecutor for two years.

The Daily World newspaper in 2005 named him the �Best Attorney in Twin Harbors,� and he has received the AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell every year since 1995 � a rating indicating that his peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence.

Edwards is a member of the Washington State and American Bar associations, the Washington State and American Trial Lawyers associations and the Defense Research Institute. He is the past president of the Grays Harbor Bar Association and taught business and constitutional law at Grays Harbor College from 1974 to 1980.

He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois in 1974 and a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University in 1970.

He is a YMCA of Grays Harbor Endowment Association trustee and a member and past president of the board of YMCA of Grays Harbor. He was a member of the City of Aberdeen Parks Board, the board of the Aberdeen Little League, the Twins Harbor Scout Council and United Way of Grays Harbor. He was the scoutmaster for the McDermoth Elementary School Cub Scouts and a volunteer for the Alexander Young Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization.

Edwards and his wife, Kim, live in Aberdeen. They have three sons and two grandchildren.
