Storm victims to get a break on college tuition

For Immediate Release: December 19, 2007

OLYMPIA The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges today voted to give storm victims a break on college tuition at Centralia College, Grays Harbor College, Olympic College and South Puget Sound Community College.

It is my hope that this discounted tuition will help more students get back to school, said Governor Chris Gregoire. Peoples lives have been severely disrupted by the December storm and this will assist students on the path to recovery.

Students that qualify could see a reduction in their tuition cost for winter and spring quarter. Each college will determine the criteria for their students. Local residents are encouraged to call their colleges financial aid office.

We know peoples lives have been devastated by this storm, said Erin Mundinger, chair of the State Board. We hope a little relief from tuition provides some support so students can get back to school and on their feet.
