Governor Gregoire Thanks Corrections Secretary Clarke for Three Years of Service

For Immediate Release: November 2, 2007

OLYMPIA Governor Chris Gregoire today announced that she has accepted the resignation of Harold Clarke, Secretary of the Washington Department of Corrections (DOC).

Secretary Clarke has made significant contributions to public safety in Washington, said Governor Gregoire. This has not been an easy task for Harold or his family and, on behalf of the people of Washington, I thank him for his service.

While serving as DOC Secretary, Clarke designed a re-entry program that will help keep offenders from committing crimes after they are released from prison and has improved our institutions, most of which have become accredited to national standards and are seen as models in other states.

Clarke has accepted the top position with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. He will serve DOC through Nov. 23.
