Governor Gregoire, First Gentleman Invite Happy Feet Fans to Trick-or-Treat at the Mansion

For Immediate Release: October 18, 2007

OLYMPIA Governor Chris Gregoire and First Mike today announced that Washington children are invited to trick-or-treat at the Executive Mansion on Halloween.

Governor Gregoire will play the part of the worlds worst singing penguin, Mumble. Just like Mumble, the environment is very important to Governor Gregoire.

First Mike will dress as Lovelace the Guru, the crazy-feathered Rockhopper penguin. Throughout the evening, he will offer words of wisdom to the trick-or-treaters for the price of a pebble.

Mumble and I both believe that you should always be true to yourself, said Governor Gregoire. As Mumble says - you cant ask me to change who I am.

Happy Feet, the Academy Award winning animated film, follows the adventures of young emperor penguin Mumble as he becomes comfortable dancing to the beat of his own tune tap dancing.

The Executive Mansion will be open to trick-or-treaters on Wednesday, October 31, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Children and their families are invited to enter the Antarctic, otherwise known as the main front porch.

Each child will receive a chocolate bar. In keeping with Governor Gregoires Halloween tradition, hidden away in five of the bars will be a special fish ticket. The winners of the fish tickets will be able to bring four guests with them to the Mansion on December 7 for a sneak preview of the Mansion's holiday decorations, including a complete behind-the-scenes tour of the Mansion. The fish ticket must be presented for entry. This year, the sneak peek tour coincides with the lighting of the holiday tree in the Capitol rotunda.

In addition to the chocolate bar, the first 500 visitors will receive one of a variety of penguin books, donated by Scholastic Books.
