Governor Gregoire Appoints Boeing Executive to WSU Board of Regents

For Immediate Release: September 10, 2007

OLYMPIA Governor Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and chief executive officer Scott Carson of Federal Way to the Board of Regents at Washington State University.

Scott Carson has a deep interest in education issues and WSU has been an important part of his life ever since he graduated as a Cougar with his bachelors degree, said Governor Gregoire. He will be a strong advocate for WSU and I am pleased to welcome him to the Board of Regents.

This appointment has double importance for me, said Carson. First of all, its especially meaningful because of my own association - and that of my familys - with this wonderful university. But theres added significance because of the tremendous contribution that our educational institutions and their graduates provide to the economic vitality of Washington and to businesses across the state. I am deeply honored to receive this appointment from Governor Gregoire, who has taken such a bold lead herself on improving education in this state from her leadership on Washington Learns to her support of the K through 12 and higher education systems.

Scott Carson is the president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes and executive vice president of The Boeing Company. He was the vice president of Sales at Boeing Commercial Airplanes before moving into his current position.

He joined Boeing in 1973 as a financial analyst on the B-1 bomber program and moved into a management position in 1976.

Until recently, Carson was the Boeing executive focal for WSU. He is on the board of governors of the WSU Foundation and is the chair of the national boards of advisors for the WSU College of Business and Economics as well as a member of the advisory board for the WSU College of Engineering and Architecture.
