Governor Gregoire Meets with Governor of Jalisco

Governors witness signing of security and education agreements

GUADALAJARA - Governor Chris Gregoire today met with Emilio Gonzalez, Governor of Jalisco, to discuss shared goals between Washington and the Sister State of Jalisco.

An important priority for Mexico is addressing security issues. Governors Gregoire and Gonzalez signed an agreement between the Washington State Patrol and the Secretariat of Public Security, Prevention and Social Readaptation of Jalisco, to establish collaboration between the parties on programs related to the training and improvement of public security areas.

Eastern Washington University and the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, which have had a long-standing mutually beneficial relationship as partner institutions, signed a new agreement to expand exchange of information, students and scholars.

�We have enjoyed a great relationship with Jalisco and agreements like these serve to strengthen ties between our states and our institutions,� said Governor Gregoire. �We are also looking forward to the exchanges we�ll have over the next several days to help bring more job and business opportunities to Washington workers and companies.�
