Governor Gregoire Promotes Washington Agriculture

For Immediate Release: July 11, 2007

MEXICO CITY - Governor Chris Gregoire and her agricultural delegation today will meet with Alberto Cardenas, Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food, to strengthen cooperation and explore prospects for future trade.

At an earlier meeting, the delegation promoted dairy products from Northwest, farmer-owned dairies represented by Darigold, the fourth largest dairy cooperative in the United States. Darigold serves over 600 farmer-owned dairies and delivers products and ingredients around the world.

Whether farmers have a herd of 50 or 20,000, Darigold provides quality processing and marketing of these goods to help even the smallest farmer compete in the global economy, said Governor Gregoire. Like so many of our industries, Washington agricultural companies use innovative technologies and the best environmental practices to support sustainable, healthy economies. It is these progressive solutions that we look forwarding to exchanging with Secretary Cardenas.
