Governor Gregoire Announces Boards and Commissions Appointments

Citizens appointed from Battle Ground, Elk, Olympia, Seattle and Spokane

OLYMPIA - Governor Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Board of Occupational Therapy Practice
Camille Curry of Olympia has been appointed to a term effective April 16, 2007, ending December 31, 2009. Ms. Curry is an occupational therapist with the Olympia School District. She is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and volunteers for American Cancer Society and American Heart Association fundraising drives.

The Board administers, coordinates and enforces the statutes relating to occupational therapists.

Board of Registration for Architects
Benson Nielsen of Spokane has been reappointed to a term effective June 16, 2007, ending June 17, 2013. Mr. Nielson is retired from Northwest Architectural Company, P.S. and is a member of the Spokane Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He volunteers for the Whitworth College Board Foundation, the Spokane Downtown Rotary Club 21 and the Inland Northwest Blood Center.

The Board examines and licenses architects within the state, investigates violations of state regulations relating to the practice of architecture and recommends rules and regulations for administering the licensing laws.

Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals
Frank Fennerty, Jr. of Olympia has been reappointed to a term effective June 18, 2007, ending June 17, 2013. Mr. Fennerty is the labor member of the Washington Board of Industrial Appeals. He was the business manager for the Professional Employees Union #23. He was on the legislation committee of the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions and was a host for the 2000 convention in Seattle.

The Board hears and makes final decisions on industrial insurance appeals.

Rehabilitation Council for the Blind
Diane Weldert Hansen of Elk has been reappointed to a term effective April 16, 2007, ending September 13, 2009. Ms. Hansen is the owner of U Centered Solutions, a member of the State Independent Living Council and The Arc of Spokane. She was the disability projects coordinator for the Health Improvement Partnership.

The Council advises the director of the Department of Services for the Blind.

Home Care Quality Authority
Nancy Kelly of Spokane has been appointed to a term effective April 16, 2007, ending July 1, 2009. Ms. Kelly is a social worker and independent living advisor for the Coalition of Responsible Disabled. She works as a live-in attendant.

The Authority was established to regulate and improve the quality of long-term in-home care services by recruiting, training and stabilizing the work force of individual providers.

Board of Tax Appeals
Kay Slonim of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective June 16, 2007, ending March 1, 2013. Ms. Slonim is an attorney with Lane Powell. She was a member of the state and local tax group at Bogle and Gates and represented the King County Assessor and Finance Office as a deputy prosecuting attorney in the King County Prosecutor's Office

The Board hears appeals from decisions of the County Boards of Equalization and the State Department of Revenue.

Washington State Horse Park Authority
Barbara Tuohino Funk of Battle Ground has been reappointed to a term effective April 30, 2007, ending March 18, 2010. Ms. Funk is a licensed U.S. equestrian dressage sport horse breeding judge and a dressage technical delegate. She is the current United States Dressage Foundation treasurer and a Washington State University Extension livestock advisor. She has served on the advisory committee of the Dutch Warmblood Studbook in North America and as treasurer and president of the Oregon Dressage Society.

The Authority is a non-profit corporation and is responsible for developing, promoting, operating, managing and maintaining the state horse park.
