Governor Gregoire, Former Senator Thibaudeau Release Final Report of Health Care Commission

For Immediate Release: January 11, 2007

OLYMPIA – Governor Chris Gregoire and Senator Pat Thibaudeau today announced the release of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care Costs and Access’ final report. The report is the result of a bipartisan effort to deliver a five-year plan that will substantially improve access to affordable health care for all Washingtonians.

“We have a responsibility to ensure that all Washingtonians have access to quality health care that fits within their budget, but the current system is not working for a large portion of our citizens,” said Governor Gregoire. “This bipartisan commission was tasked with the important job of examining our health care system and I hope that their recommendations will be used as the foundation for significant action to increase access to quality care.”

The commission outlined several key goals including that all Washingtonians have access to affordable insurance by 2012 and all children by 2010. The report provides 16 specific recommendations and action steps to build a high-quality health care system, provide affordable insurance options for our families, ensure the health of the next generation and promote prevention and healthy lifestyles.
