Statement from Governor Gregoire on Transportation Secretary MacDonald�s Plans to Leave WSDOT

OLYMPIA � Governor Chris Gregoire today announced that Department of Transportation Secretary Doug MacDonald informed her he will be resigning in late July.

�Secretary MacDonald has led WSDOT with energy and enthusiasm. The many successful projects and positive results from WSDOT during his time as secretary speak to his ability as a leader and his commitment to service,� said Governor Gregoire. �I am grateful for his service and wish him luck on the next chapter in his life.�

�In six years, great progress has been made on transportation issues in Washington,� said Secretary MacDonald. �I and everyone else at WSDOT are proud of that progress. The work ahead is very challenging, but WSDOT is ready and able to renew and extend its commitments to meet citizens� expectations.�

In a message today to WSDOT employees announcing his intentions, Secretary MacDonald thanked co-workers for the agency�s success to improve both the delivery of transportation projects and WSDOT�s accountability to citizens and public officials. He also shared that he plans to live in Seattle and pursue new opportunities in the environmental and transportation fields.
