Governor Gregoire Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Citizens appointed from Federal Way, Lacey, Mercer Island, Omak, Seattle and Spokane

OLYMPIA - Governor Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Board of Directors Convention and Trade Center
Karen Wong of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective April 11, 2007, ending May 17, 2012. Ms. Wong is general counsel for United Savings and Loan Bank. She is active in the community at large and in Seattle's Asian community. Ms. Wong is on the board of the Virginia Mason Medical Center, the president of the Robert Chinn Foundation and a member of the Law Fund Board. She is active in the Rotary Club of Seattle, the Seattle Art Museum Guild and the Rainier Club.

The Board is a public non-profit corporation formed for the purpose of constructing and operating a state convention and trade center in Seattle.

Board of Hearing and Speech
Rhonda Freidlander of Omak has been reappointed to a term effective June 7, 2007, ending June 6, 2010. Ms. Freidlander is a speech language pathologist with One Claw Speech Therapy Services. She has worked with the Colville Tribes in the Head Start and Tribal Health programs.

The Board examines and licenses hearing instrument dispensers, recommends standards for equipment and procedures and adopts rules relating to standards of care relating to hearing instrument fitter/dispensers or audiologists and relating to speech-language pathologists.

Family Practice Education Advisory Board
Gary Sigler of Spokane has been appointed to a term effective April 9, 2007, ending September 7, 2011. Mr. Sigler is a retired professor at Eastern Washington University and was a counselor with the Community Colleges of Spokane. He volunteers with the American Red Cross and the Special Olympics.

The Board advises the University of Washington School of Medicine on implementing educational programs in family medicine.

Fire Protection Policy Board
Rick Chaney of Federal Way has been reappointed to a term effective April 16, 2007, ending April 15, 2010. Mr. Chaney is a Fire Captain in the training division for South King County Fire and Rescue and an executive board member with the Washington State Council of Firefighters. He is the coordinator for the Washington State Firefighters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, a charter board member of the Federal Way Firefighter Foundation and a member of the master strategic leadership planning committee for the Federal Way Fire Department.

T.J. Nedrow of Lacey has been reappointed to a term effective April 16, 2007, ending April 15, 2010. Mr. Nedrow is the chair and president of the Washington State Fire Fighters Association. He is the Washington Director for the National Volunteers Fire Council and volunteers with Lacey Fire District # 3. He is employed by the Washington State Department of Transportation as a transportation-planning specialist.

The Board sets policy on fire-protection matters and advises and assists the Chief of the State Patrol and the director of Fire Protection on all fire-protection matters and in developing a budget.

Jail Industries Board
Rob Holland of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective April 11, 2007, ending February 15, 2010. Mr. Holland is employed with Horizon Lines in sales and business development. He is a member of the South Seattle Crime Prevention Council, the Seattle JOY Initiative, a program to help juveniles transition from lock-up to work, and is a member of Tabor 100.

The Board offers advice to cities and counties in developing, promoting and implementing consistent, safe and efficient offender work programs.

Examining Board of Psychology
Decky Fiedler of Mercer Island has been appointed to a term effective April 11, 2007, ending January 6, 2009. Ms. Fiedler is a self-employed clinical psychologist and has worked at Virginia Mason Medical Center and Pacific Lutheran University. She volunteers with Mercer Island Youth and Family Services, the Mercer Island Schools Foundation and the Center for Women in Democracy.

The Board examines candidates for licensure and is authorized to deny, revoke, suspend or restrict licenses for specified conduct.

Board of Directors for the Spokane Intercollegiate Research and Technology Institute
John Pariseau of Spokane has been appointed to a term effective April 12, 2007, ending June 30, 2009. Mr. Pariseau is the General Manager of WIN Partners, LLC. He was the Controller and CFO of Brewster Heights Packing, Inc. and is on the boards of Angel Group, the City of Spokane Plan Commission and Connect Northwest.

The Board is responsible for developing and approving the Spokane Intercollegiate Research & Technology Institute's (SIRTI) general operating procedures and annual operating budget, approves and allocates funds for research projects and coordinates research, development and training programs with other institutes of higher education.
