Governor Gregoire Signs Legislation to Create Efficiency Hotline for Washingtonians

Toll-free telephone line will help Washingtonians and public employees recommend efficiency measures, report waste, commend achievements

OLYMPIA - Governor Chris Gregoire today signed into law a measure to establish a state government efficiency hotline. The toll-free telephone number will allow Washingtonians and public employees to recommend measures to improve efficiency in state and local government, report abuse or inefficiency and recognize achievements.

�Accountability to is one of my top priorities and is something that Washingtonians expect from state government,� said Governor Gregoire. �This is just one more way that we are making government accountable to the people we serve.�

The efficiency hotline will be established by the Washington State Auditor�s Office, who will follow up on every call. All calls will be kept confidential.

Engrossed Senate Bill 5513, sponsored by Sen. Derek Kilmer (D-Gig Harbor), passed the House with 96 votes and passed the Senate with 46 votes. The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of the Legislative session.

  • SB 5036 - Relating to repealing the application of the sunset act to the intermediate driver's license program.
  • SB 5079 - Relating to including supreme court and court of appeals commissioners to solemnize marriages.
  • SB 5113 - Relating to barley straw for water clarification.
  • SSB 5231 - Relating to water-sewer districts.
  • SSB 5263 - Relating to medical malpractice closed claim reporting.
  • SB 5264 - Relating to naming or renaming state transportation facilities.
  • SB 5351 - Relating to the court of appeals.
  • SB 5382 - Relating to record checks for employees and applicants for employment at bureau of Indian affairs-funded schools.
  • ESB 5385 - Relating to authorizing the Washington higher education facilities authority to originate and purchase educational loans and to issue student loan revenue bonds.
  • SSB 5405 - Relating to judicial orders concerning distraint of personal property.
  • SB 5408 - Relating to primary election ballots.
  • SSB 5481 - Relating to conservation measures in performance-based contracting.
  • SB 5490 - Relating to adult family home advisory committees.
  • SB 5525 - Relating to medical insurance for city officials.
