Governor Gregoire Appoints Prescott Wheat Rancher to Washington State University Board of Regents

For Immediate Release: February 16, 2007

OLYMPIA Governor Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of Harold Cochran of Prescott to the Board of Regents at Washington State University (WSU).

Harold Cochrans experience as a third generation wheat rancher and his work with the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and Walla Walla County Wheat Growers make him an excellent choice given WSUs historic agricultural roots, said Governor Gregoire. As the states land grant university, WSU will be well-served by Harolds background and connections in the agriculture community.

I consider it a great honor to be appointed to the Board of Regents for such a prestigious university, said Mr. Cochran.

Mr. Cochran is a wheat rancher on the 5500-acre family farm near Prescott. He is a member of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and the Walla Walla County Wheat Growers, where he chaired the domestic policy committee.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Northwest Grain Growers and Bank of the West, where he worked through the merge with American West Bank.

Mr. Cochran served for twelve years on the Walla Walla High School Agriculture Advisory Committee, where he was a volunteer coach for the FFA Agriculture Issues Team and a judge at the state FFA Convention. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Gonzaga University in 1971 and his Master of Education in Counseling from Gonzaga in 1973. He currently resides in Prescott with his family.
