State Parks Now Accessible for All Washingtonians

For Immediate Release: April 8, 2006

Measure passed this year removed park fees effective April 9

OLYMPIA Governor Gregoire today announced that, as of tomorrow, state parks will officially no longer charge a daily parking fee, due to legislation she signed into law on March 20.

The official removal of these fees will open up these parks to all Washington families, said Governor Gregoire. But this was only the first step - our next challenge in the legislature is to find an alternative revenue source that is ample, sustainable and reliable.

House Bill 2416 repealed the daily parking fees at Washington parks that was implemented in 2003.

Governor Gregoire this year also signed legislation to fund improvements to the wastewater systems at state parks in Hood Canal and the Puget Sound.
