WASHINGTON, D.C. First Gentleman Mike Gregoire or First Mike - this evening attended the lighting of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree at a ceremony on the West Front Lawn of the Capitol. The tree is the first U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree to come from Washington. First Mike served as the honorary co-chair of the ornament committee, which collected handcrafted ornaments to decorate the tree from approximately 3,000 Washington students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

First Gentleman Mike Gregoire:

I am honored to be here today to share a part of Washingtons natural beauty with the rest of the country. Our family is very proud that our state was selected to provide this fine tree.

Governor Chris Gregoire:

Its been an interesting year in Washington drought, forest fires, floods and snowstorms and Mike and I are grateful to everyone at the Washington Department of Transportation, State Patrol and National Guard for their work during the floods and snowstorms. This holiday season, I hope you will remember those less fortunate or those who have been impacted by these natural disasters and extend a hand of assistance to those in need.
