Governor Gregoire Appoints WSU Alumnus, Clark County Business Leader to Washington State University Board of Regents

OLYMPIA - Governor Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of Mike Worthy of Vancouver to the Board of Regents at Washington State University.

�Mike Worthy�s leadership on the Higher Education Coordinating Board and his past work with Washington State University Vancouver will make him a valued addition to the WSU Board of Regents,� said Governor Gregoire. �He brings a new geographic perspective to the board and will work to continue WSU�s legacy of serving the entire state.�

Mr. Worthy said, �As a life long supporter of WSU, appointment as a Regent is an honor I could never refuse. I am very excited to continue my service to WSU during a time of great opportunity for higher education in Washington.�

Mr. Worthy is on the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board and is the chair of the Board�s finance committee. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Clark County, which has been named four times by �Washington CEO Magazine� as one of the best places to work in Washington. He was the Senior Vice President and Division Manager of Wells Fargo in Seattle and before that worked in Tacoma as Area President for First Interstate Bank.

Mr. Worthy was chairperson of the Chancellor's Advisory Committee for Washington State University Vancouver, a trustee of the Washington State University Foundation and a board member of the Greater Vancouver, Tacoma/Pierce County and Seattle Chambers of Commerce.

Washington State University in 2002 granted him the Alumni Achievement Award and he has been recognized by the U.S. Air Force � Air Mobility Command, the American Red Cross of Tacoma and the Military Order of World Wars.

Mr. Worthy has been a guest lecturer at Washington State University and the University of Washington, and was the National President of the WSU Alumni Association. He is a former member of the Air Force Association, the Association of the United States Army and the City University Advisory Council.

Mr. Worthy received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Economics from Washington State University and graduated from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. He currently resides in Vancouver.
