Governor Gregoire Announces College Boards of Trustees Appointments

Citizens appointed from Bellingham, Chelan, Cheney, Colfax, Ellensburg, Kapowsin, Longview, Mercer Island, Olympia, Pasco, Renton, Spokane, Tacoma, Woodinville and Zillah

OLYMPIA - Governor Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following Washington college�s Boards of Trustees:

Bellevue Community College Board of Trustees
Vijay Vashee of Mercer Island has been reappointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Mr. Vashee is the vice chair of the Bellevue Community College Board of Trustees. He is a retired general manager for Microsoft and is the founding president of TIE-Seattle, a not-for-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship.

Cascadia Community College Board of Trustees
Michael Martino of Woodinville has been reappointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Mr. Martino joined Sonus Pharmaceuticals as president, chief operating officer and a director. In 1998, he was appointed chief executive officer.

Clover Park Technical College Board of Trustees
Shauna Weatherby of Tacoma has been reappointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Ms. Weatherby is the vice chair of the Clover Park Technical College board of trustees. She is a women�s health care registered nurse practitioner and volunteers with the American Cancer society and the Tacoma Foundation for Women and Girls.

Columbia Basin Community College Board of Trustees
Salvador Beltran, Jr. of Pasco has been reappointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Mr. Beltran is a retired high school principal and member of the retired school administrator association as well as the Pasco Chief of Police Advisory Board, the American Cancer Society and the Hispanic American Airborne Association.

Lower Columbia Community College Board of Trustees
Thuy Vo of Longview has been reappointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Mr. Vo is the owner of Vo Printers and supports community organizations such as Community House, D.A.R.E. and United Way of Cowlitz County.

Renton Technical College Board of Trustees
Ronnie Behnke of Renton has been reappointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Ms. Behnke is the chair of the Renton Technical College board of trustees and a 27-year Boeing employee.

South Puget Sound Community College Board of Trustees
Leonor Fuller of Olympia has been reappointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Ms. Fuller is the board chair and an attorney with Fuller and Fuller Law Firm. She is a member of the Women of the Washington Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the Washington Bar and Thurston County Bar Associations.

Spokane Community College Board of Trustees
Representative Don Cox of Colfax has been appointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Representative Cox is the former superintendent of the Colfax School District and was appointed to the Washington House of Representatives in 1997. He won election to the same seat in 1999, and served on the House education, higher education and appropriations committees.

Wenatchee Valley Community College Board of Trustees
Bob Meyers of Chelan has been reappointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Mr. Meyers is a retired senior vice president of Puget Sound Energy. He is a U.S. Air Force Veteran and has served on the board of the Seattle Symphony and the UW College of Engineering.

Yakima Valley Community College Board of Trustees
Lisa Parker of Zillah has been reappointed to a term effective October 1, 2006, ending September 30, 2011. Ms. Parker is the vice chair of the Yakima Valley Community College board of trustees. She is the music teacher for the Wapato School District and was named teacher of the year in 2002.

University of Washington Board of Regents
Jennifer Faubion of Kapowsin has been appointed to a term effective July 1, 2006, ending June 30, 2007. Ms. Faubion is entering her third year as a law student at UW, where she has served on the executive board of the UW Law School Moot Court Honor Board, the services and activities fee committee and is involved in the UW Law School�s Mediation Competition.

Washington State University Board of Regents
Kyle Smith of Spokane has been appointed to a term effective July 1, 2006, ending June 30, 2007. He is a senior at Washington State University, majoring in environmental science and regional planning with a minor in political science. He is the president of the WSU Environmental Science Club, a student representative for the WSU Health and Safety Committee and is the chair of the ASWSU Environmental Task Force.

Central Washington University Board of Trustees
Anthony Aronica of Ellensburg has been appointed to a term effective July 1, 2006, ending June 30, 2007. Mr. Aronica is a senior at Central Washington University and will graduate with degrees in history and anthropology from the William O. Douglas Honors College. He was the student body president during the 2005-2006 academic year and was the vice president of clubs and organizations for ASCWU from 2004-2005. Mr. Aronica is the founder and an active member of the CWU College Bowl.

Western Washington University Board of Trustees
Chiho Lai of Bellingham has been appointed to a term effective July 1, 2006, ending June 30, 2007. Mr. Lain is a senior at Western Washington University majoring in history with a minor in accounting. He is an active participant in the WWU Student Senate and is special assistant to the WWU Faculty Senate.

Eastern Washington University Board of Trustees
Isaura Gallegos of Cheney has been appointed to a term effective July 1, 2006, ending June 30, 2007. Ms. Gallegos is a senior at Eastern Washington University with a double major in biology and government. She is active in the ASEWU Diversity Committee and campus groups Stop the Hate and the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A.). Ms. Gallegos is also a writer for EWU�s student newspaper.

The Evergreen State College Board of Trustees
Jay Carmony of Olympia has been appointed to a term effective July 1, 2006, ending June 30, 2007. Mr. Carmony is a senior at The Evergreen State College, majoring in agriculture and fine arts at The Evergreen State College. He is active with the TESC Compost Facility.
