Gov. Gregoire nominates two Washington residents for reappointment to federal fisheries councils

Gov. Christine Gregoire today announced that she is nominating for reappointment John Bundy of Seattle to the North Pacific Fishery Management Council and Mark Cedargreen of Westport to the Pacific Fishery Management Council.

Bundy is president of Glacier Fish Company. He is a founding member of the Pacific Whiting Conservation Cooperative and the Pollock Conservation Cooperative. He served as initial president of both organizations and current serves on the board of the At-Sea Processing Association.

Cedargren is currently executive director of the Westport Charterboat Association. He has been involved in the recreational fishing industry for more than 30 years and has been involved in the council process for most of his career. He is also a member of the Pacific Salmon Commission�s Southern Panel.

There are eight regional fisheries councils established by the Magnuson Fishery Conservation and Management Act to oversee management of the nation�s fisheries.

The Governor nominates members to each council, along with two alternatives, to the Secretary of Commerce. The alternatives proposed by Gov. Gregoire for the North Pacific council are David Little, president and founder of Clipper Seafoods, Ltd., and John Henderschedt, operations and fisheries manager for Premier Pacific Seafoods, Inc. The alternatives proposed for the Pacific council are Aldrich �Butch� Smith, president of the Ilwaco Charter Association, and Larry Carpenter, currently the recreational sector panel member on the Pacific Salmon Commission.
