Gov. Christine Gregoire announces appointments to boards and commissions

Gov. Christine Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Bates Technical College Board of Trustees

Karen Seinfeld of Tacoma has been appointed to a term effective March 10, 2005, and ending Sept. 30, 2007. Seinfeld is a retired judge from the State Court of Appeals, and has been active in numerous organizations, including the League of Women Voter�s Board and the A+ for Education Board. Bates Technical College Board of Trustees is the governing board for one of the state's 30 community and technical college districts.

The Evergreen State College Board of Trustees

Dyami Allen of Olympia has been appointed as Student Trustee to a term effective March 10, 2005, and ending May 31, 2005. While working to complete his studies, Allen also works as a production assistant in TESC�s S&A Productions, as well as being involved with the Student�s Funds and Allocations Board, the Native Student Alliances and the Thurston Santo Tomas Sister-County Association. The Board of Trustees is the governing body for the Evergreen State College.

Governor�s Industrial Safety and Health Board

The Governor�s Industrial Safety and Health Board is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases among employees in the state and to promote the efficient, safe, healthful and productive operation of industry within the state.

The following members have been reappointed to terms effective March 10, 2005, and ending Dec. 31, 2008: Ward Andrews of Olympia, Larry Brown of Auburn, Michael Brown of Aberdeen, Martin Brown of Seattle, Richard Case of Lynnwood, Greg Davis of Edwall, David D�Hondt of Puyallup, Kirk Hayfield of Spokane, Michael Heuer of Kelso, Robert Hollenbeck of Sammamish, Rene LaRocque of Tacoma, Alvin Lippincott Jr. of Ridgefield, Jeff Lutz of Wenatchee, Tim Maclean of Tacoma, Scott Mafune of Mountlake Terrace, Charley Masco of Vancouver, Herb Maxey of Brush Prairie, Sharon Ness of University Place, Brad Papenbrock of Bothell, James Schick of Seattle, Brooke Thomsen of Wenatchee, Jeff Waldron of Anacortes and Sherman Williams Jr. of Seattle.

The following people have been appointed to terms effective March 10, 2005, and ending Dec. 31, 2008:

  • Ronald Banka of Spokane, a member of the Spokane Labor Council Executive Board.

  • Douglas Buman of Puyallup, a coordinator for the Laborers� Tri Funds who has 13 years of construction experience in the Puget Sound area.

  • Stephanie Carter of Kirkland, an adjunct lecturer for Central Washington University.

  • Mike Mauermann of Chehalis, secretary/treasurer of Teamsters Union Local No. 252.

  • Eric Nicholson of Tacoma, the Pacific Northwest regional director for the United Farm Workers of America, AFL-CIO.

  • Lance Risch of Bremerton, business representative for the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace workers, District Lodge 160.

  • Jim Thomas of Woodland, operations team leader for Weyerhaeuser Co.

  • Jerry Wallace of Woodland, president and owner of Wallace Technical Blasting, with logging, construction and surface-mining licenses.

Highline Community College Board of Trustees

Rita Creighton of Normandy Park has been appointed to a term effective March 10, 2005, and ending Sept. 30, 2008. Rita Creighton serves on the board of directors for the National PTA, and was president of the Washington State PTA. The Highline Community College Board of Trustees is the governing board for one of the state�s 30 community and technical college districts.

Horse Racing Commission

Deanna Oppenheimer of Mercer Island has been appointed to a term effective March 10, 2005, and ending Jan. 17, 2009. Oppenheimer graduated cum laude from the University of Puget Sound with degrees in political science and urban affairs. U.S. Banker named her as one of the nation�s five most influential women in banking. She is currently president of Cameo Works, a company that invests financial capital and human ingenuity to bring promising organizations and managements teams to their full potential. The Horse Racing Commission regulates and supervises all race meets held in the state that have pari-mutuel wagering.

Human Rights Commission

Jerry Hebert of Poulsbo has been appointed to a term effective March 8, 2005, and ending June 17, 2007. Hebert is president of the Kitsap Human Rights Network and is also the Extension Campus Program coordinator for the Northwest Indian College. The Human Rights Commission works to eliminate and prevent discrimination in employment and business practices based on race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age or mental or physical handicap.

Commission on Pesticide Registration

Gina McCauley of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective March 1, 2005, and ending Sept. 14, 2007. McCauley has been involved in the green industry for nearly 20 years. She is currently the executive coordinator for Flower Growers of Puget Sound (FGPS) and produces a monthly green industry letter. The Commission on Pesticide Registration provides guidance to the Washington State University Food Safety and Environmental Quality Lab in the area of pesticide registrations for minor crops and minor uses and in regard to the availability of pesticides for emergency use.

Board of Pharmacy

Gary Harris of Redmond has been appointed to a term effective March 8, 2005, and ending Feb. 7, 2009. Harris is a practicing pharmacist with over 30 years experience in retail and hospital settings. The Board of Pharmacy establishes policy for the practice of pharmacy, including licensing, disciplinary hearings and enforcement of laws pertaining to legal drugs; and licenses the manufacture and sale of poisons.

George Roe of Woodinville has been reappointed to a term effective March 8, 2005, and ending Jan. 19, 2009.

Sentencing Guidelines Commission

Suzanne Brown-McBride of Olympia has been appointed to a term effective March 10, 2005, and ending Aug. 2, 2006. Suzanne Brown-McBride is director of the Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, participating at the state and national level of advisory groups, task forces and initiatives focused in the improvement of crime victim response and elimination of sexual violence. The Sentencing Guidelines Commission evaluates the state sentencing policy for both the adult criminal justice system and the juvenile justice system.

Snohomish County Boundary Review Board

Dave Somers of Monroe has been reappointed to a term effective March 8, 2005, and ending Jan. 31, 2009. Boundary review boards have jurisdiction over municipal annexations, incorporation's, disincorporations, and creation or annexation of certain special districts. The boards also have jurisdiction over extensions of sewer and water services outside the city or district.

State Board of Health

The Honorable Mike Shelton of Coupeville has been appointed to a term effective March 8, 2005, and ending July 1, 2005. Shelton serves as Island County commissioner and has been a member of the Island County Board of Health for the past 12 years. The State Board of Health is the primary entity for state health policy development.

Yakima Valley Community College Board of Trustees

Larry Sanchez of Yakima has been appointed to a term effective March 10, 2005, and ending Sept. 30, 2008. Sanchez represents the Washington State Employment Security Office on local boards, councils and task forces. The Yakima Valley Community College Board of Trustees is the governing board for one of the state�s 30 community and technical college districts.
