Gov. Gregoire Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Citizens Appointed from Olympia, Ferndale, Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane and Vancouver

OLYMPIA �Governor Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Affordable Housing Advisory Board

Christine Lowell of Olympia has been appointed to a term effective January 19, 2006, ending January 26, 2010. Ms. Lowell is the executive director of the Housing Authority of Thurston County. In addition, she is the chair of the State Advisory Council on Homelessness and the vice-president for western Washington on the Washington State Coalition for the Homeless. She also volunteers with the Thurston County Community Kitchen.

The board serves as principal advisory body to the Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development on housing and housing-related issues.

Board of Boiler Rules

Steven Bacon of Ferndale has been reappointed to a term effective January 19, 2006, ending August 22, 2009. Mr. Bacon is an inspection supervisor at the ConocoPhillips Ferndale Refinery. He served as a boiler technician in the United States Navy from 1968-1973. Bacon also serves as secretary of the Ferndale Refinery Credit Union board of directors.

The board formulates rules and regulations for the safe and proper construction, installation, use, operation and repair of boilers and pressure vessels.

Governor�s Council of Economic Advisors

Shelly Lundberg of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective January 25, 2006. Ms. Lundberg is currently the Castor Professor of Economics at the University of Washington, where she has been teaching for over twenty years. She is also the director of the Center for Research on Families at the UW and serves on the editorial boards of several academic publications.

The council advises the Governor on state financial matters, including the state budget, tax policy, the issuance of debt and debt management, cash management and other fiscal matters that reflect upon the overall financial condition of the state.

Interagency Committee of State Employed Women

Aurea Figueroa of Tacoma, Mary Skube of Olympia, and Stacy Brady of Olympia have been appointed to terms beginning January 16, 2006, ending June 30, 2007. Ms. Figueroa is the WorkFirst policy and social services program manager with the department of social and health services. She is also a certified Spanish language translator and volunteers with the Lakewood YWCA. Ms. Skube is a financial analyst with the Washington State Lottery. In support of the lottery�s commitment to education, Skube also volunteers with Page Ahead, a non-profit devoted to helping underprivileged children who cannot afford books. Ms. Brady is a fiscal technician with the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation and the Salmon Recovery Funding Board. She is also the web master for the American Made Rodeo Drill Team.

The committee examines and defines issues pertaining to the rights and needs of women employed in state government, making recommendations to the Governor and state agencies with respect to desirable changes in program and law, especially in the area of education, training, career development and other conditions of employment.

Board of Nursing Home Administrators

William Patrick O�Neill of Spokane has been appointed to a term effective January 19, 2006, ending May 28, 2007. Mr. O�Neill is the President and CEO of the Riverview Retirement Community in Spokane. He is also a member of the Washington Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, for which he served as chairman of the board from 2002-2004 and is an active member of Rotary 21.

The board administers the licensure or registration process for nursing home administrators.

Pharmacy Board

Rosemarie Duffy of Spokane has been appointed to a term effective January 30, 2006, ending January 19, 2010. Ms. Duffy is a registered nurse in the state of Washington and currently works at the Spokane Veterans� Hospital. She is very active in her church, serving as congregational president from 1998-2000. She is also active in her community, serving on the board of directors for the Planned Parenthood of the Inland Empire from 1998-2000 and organizing two trips to Bangladesh for health professionals in 2000 and 2001.

The board establishes policy for the practice of pharmacy, including licensing, disciplinary hearings, enforcement of laws pertaining to legal drugs and licenses the manufacture and sale of poisons.

Real Estate Appraiser Commission

Mary Bandy of Vancouver has been appointed to a term effective January 19, 2006, ending December 22, 2008. Ms. Bandy is a certified residential real estate appraiser and works as a real property appraiser for Clark County. She is also a member of the IFPTE Local 17 and served as president from 1996 through 2000.

The commission serves as a liaison between appraisal practitioners, the public and the Department of Licensing.

Western Washington University Board of Trustees

Howard Lincoln of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective January 27, 2006, ending September 30, 2010. Mr. Lincoln is an owner of the Seattle Mariners and has served as CEO for the team since 1999. He also served as chairman for Nintendo before his retirement in 2000. Lincoln is very active in philanthropic work throughout the greater Seattle area, serving as chairman of the Children�s Hospital Foundation and as a board member for the Bellevue Boys & Girls Club and The Pacific Science Center, among many other nonprofit organizations.

The board is the governing body for Western Washington University.
