Gov. Gregoire’s statement on Race to the Top win for King County districts

For Immediate Release: December 11, 2012

OLYMPIA – Gov. Chris Gregoire today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Education approved a major Race to the Top grant for a consortium of King County school districts.

“Congratulations to the Puget Sound Educational Service District and the Road Map District Consortium, one of only 16 Race to the Top winning districts in the nation. These education leaders earned this $40 million grant by communicating a compelling vision for excellence and equal opportunity for all students.

“Every child needs a strong foundation when they first arrive at the schoolhouse door. In school, they need to develop strong math and science skills for success in tomorrow’s economy. This grant will help teachers focus their skills that help graduates open the doors to the jobs of the future – right here in Washington. More than 150,000 kids in King County will be better prepared for college and successful careers with this victory today.”
