Gov. Gregoire appoints Superior Court judge for Thurston County

For Immediate Release: February 29, 2012

OLYMPIA Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced she has appointed James Dixon to the Thurston County Superior Court. Dixon is currently a senior and managing partner at Dixon Rodgers Kee Pearson in Olympia and replaces Judge Christine A. Pomeroy, who announced her retirement from the bench effective February 29, 2012.

Jim is held in high esteem by the bar and the bench in Thurston County for his integrity, work ethic and respectful demeanor, Gregoire said. His legal experience in both family and criminal law and his extensive trial practice will be a great asset to the work of the Court.

It is a true honor to be afforded an opportunity to serve this community as Superior Court Judge, Dixon said. I am humbled that Governor Gregoire has entrusted me with this appointment and am looking forward to joining an already outstanding Superior Court bench. Retiring Judge Pomeroy set a high standard and I will strive to uphold that standard.

Jim Dixon is a highly regarded criminal defense attorney whose work in the courtroom has demonstrated his advocacy skills and his respect for the criminal justice system, Presiding Judge Christopher Wickham said. The Court has appreciated his regular participation in court-led efforts to improve the administration of justice.

Dixon began his legal career in 1990 as an associate attorney with a family law firm. For more than 22 years he has been a trial attorney representing clients in family law and criminal law matters. More recently, he has focused on representing clients in misdemeanor, juvenile offender and felony cases. Dixon received the Daniel Bigelow Thurston County Bar Association Lawyer of the Year award in 2011 for his outstanding professional and community service. He serves as board member on the South Puget Sound Community College Paralegal Advisory Committee and participates in the Thurston County Volunteer Legal Clinic.

Governor Gregoire has made an outstanding appointment, said Judge Pomeroy. Jim Dixon will be a fine judge, and Im proud to have him follow me on this court.

Dixon earned his bachelors degree with honors from the University of Puget Sound in 1980, and then worked as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a number of years before entering the University of Puget Sound Law School, where he graduated in 1990. Dixon also holds a masters degree in Public Administration from Rice University.
