Gregoire names Marty Loesch as chief of staff

For Immediate Release: July 11, 2011

Gov. Chris Gregoire today named Marty Loesch chief of staff of the Governors Office. Loesch will begin his new role Monday, July 18, 2011. Loesch is replacing Jay Manning, who announced his resignation in June 2011.

With his strong legal and policy background, Marty is a natural fit for the offices chief of staff, Gregoire said. Martys skills and wealth of knowledge about the state will be assets as we work to bring people and organizations together to create jobs, Gregoire said. We have an aggressive agenda for the next 18 months. Im glad to have Marty by my side as we work through these unprecedented times.

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the governor and people of Washington in a new way, Loesch said. Our state faces a host of challenges, and I look forward to working with the governor, legislators and all Washingtonians as we climb out of this recession.

Loesch has served as Gregoires director of external affairs and senior counsel since January 2009. Previously, he worked as inter-governmental affairs director and tribal attorney for the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community and practiced law for three private firms. Loesch has also served as an international election monitor in South Africa, Bosnia and Republika Srpska and an international law consultant with Catholic Relief Services. He earned his bachelors degree from the University of Notre Dame and returned to the school to earn his juris doctor and master of laws in international human rights law.

Gregoire also thanked Manning for his years of service, saying, Jay and I have worked together for many years. I have always been deeply impressed by his dedicated, passionate service to the people of this state. I am proud to call him my friend and wish him luck in whatever he chooses to do next.
