Gov. Gregoire�s statement on special session

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire tonight issued the following statement on calling the Legislature back for a special session:

�After a meeting with legislative leadership this afternoon, both parties agreed to return on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with a goal of a 24-hour special session of the Legislature. Legislators understand the challenging economic times we�re in, and the significant shortfall our state faces this fiscal year. Their bipartisan agreement of about $584 million in savings solves more than half of our current budget shortfall � and provides the momentum they need to develop a supplemental budget when they return for the regular session in January. I commend them for working extremely hard and making the tough decisions to get the job done quickly.�
