Gov. Gregoire celebrates Seattle Storms WNBA championship

For Immediate Release: September 16, 2010

OLYMPIA After making a friendly wager with Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue that the Seattle Storm would beat the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA finals, Gov. Chris Gregoire celebrated the Storms winthe second championship of the teams history.
In the wager Perdue promised to send Gregoire a box of Georgia peaches if the Storm triumphed. Had the Atlanta Dream won, Gregoire offered up a box of Washington apples.

When I made the wager I told Governor Perdue that the Storm had an incredible record, Gov. Gregoire said. In a three game sweep the Seattle Storm proved that they are undoubtedly the champs. They had an incredible season and their talent and tenacity showed at every game. Their win was well earned. Congratulations to the entire team, to Finals MVP Lauren Jackson, and to the WNBAs 2010 coach of the year Brian Agler.

The Atlanta Dream presented a tough challenge but the Storm just couldnt be stopped, said Gregoire. I know Governor Perdue will pick out a box of some of Georgias best peaches and Im looking forward to collecting on our bet. As I told him, I like my peach cobbler a la mode, so Im hoping he sends some ice cream along as well. I look forward to sharing that cobbler with the team, the coach, and the owners.
