Gov. Gregoire announces Jill Satran as deputy chief of staff

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of Jill Satran as her deputy chief of staff. Satran is currently the director of accountability and performance within the governor�s executive policy office, as well as the coordinator of the governor�s economic recovery team.

�This position requires a hard worker who can think strategically and make sensible decisions. That�s Jill,� Gregoire said. �I truly admire and respect Jill�s work ethic � she has been an incredibly valuable member of my team who has developed a strong understanding of how our state agencies work. That experience will serve her and this administration well in this new role.�

�It is a tremendous honor to serve Governor Gregoire and the citizens of Washington in this capacity,� Satran said. �I am very excited to be working with such a gifted leader and her stellar team to ensure our state comes out of the recession stronger and more competitive than ever.�

As deputy chief of staff, Satran will be responsible for supervising the small agency cabinet and boards and commissions, as well as oversee office operations within the Governor�s Office. Satran will also serve on the governor�s senior staff.

Satran joined the Governor�s Office in 2006 as an executive policy advisor on transportation issues. As director of accountability and performance, Satran worked closely with state agencies to improve efficiencies while providing quality public service � and has partnered with agencies to ensure effective and transparent implementation of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding.

Prior to joining Gregoire�s staff, Satran held a position with the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee, and served as counsel to the House Transportation Committee. She also has experience as a senior management consultant in the private sector.

Satran is a graduate of the University of Washington Law School, and earned a Ph.D. in public administration and policy from Florida State University. Her appointment is effective April 5. She will earn an annual salary of $120,000.
