Gov. Christine Gregoire announces appointments to boards and commissions

OLYMPIA - September 12, 2005 - Gov. Christine Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Capital Projects Advisory Review Board
Ed Kommers of Seattle and Gerald Reifert of Olga have been appointed to terms effective August 8, 2005, ending July 28, 2007. Kommers represents the specialty contractors and has supervised engineering and design on numerous projects including the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Overlake Hospital. Reifert represents the design industry and is the Principal, Treasurer of Mahlum Architects. The capital projects advisory review board was created in the Department of General Administration to provide an evaluation of public capital projects construction processes, including the impact of contracting methods on project outcomes, and to advise the legislature on policies related to alternative public works delivery methods.

Commission on Judicial Conduct
Wanda Briggs of Kennewick and John Sleeter of Olympia have been appointed to terms effective August 3, 2005, ending June 16, 2009. Briggs retired in 1997 after serving several years as court reporter for the Tri-City Herald. Sleeter recently retired as a Superior Court Administrator for the Thurston County Superior Court. The commission reviews complaints alleging possible violations of the Code of Judicial Conduct. Also enforces the state ethics legislation for all members and employees of the state judicial system.

Developmental Disabilities Council
John Lemus of Spokane has been appointed to a term effective August 8, 2005, ending June 30, 2008. Lemus is a student at Spokane Public School IMAGES and volunteer with the Equity Education office. Adrian Patayon of Everett and Greg Rodriguez of Seattle have been appointed to terms effective August 12, 2005, ending June 30, 2008. Patayon is employed with the City of Lynwood. Rodriguez is a parent advocate for special needs children.
The council advises the governor on issues and trends in providing services to developmentally disabled individuals acting as their advocate and as a planning entity.

Gambling Commission
Peggy Ann Bierbaum of Qulicene has been appointed to a term effective August 25, 2005, ending June 30, 2011. Bierbaum is an attorney in private practice in Port Townsend.
The commission licenses, inspects, investigates and audits organizations, businesses and individuals participating in authorized gambling activities.




Governor�s Advisory Council on HIV/Aids
Judith Billings of Puyallup has been reappointed to a term effective July 18, 2005, ending June 30, 2008. The board advises the governor on HIV/AIDS related programs and policy.

Home Care Quality Authority
Charley Reed of Olympia has been reappointed as chair to a term effective August 12, 2005, ending July 1, 2008. The authority was established to regulate and improve the quality of long-term in-home care services by recruiting, training, and stabilizing the work force of individual providers.

Municipal Research Council
Judith Boekholder of Toppenish, Pam Carter of Tukwila, Barbara Harrer of Harrah, Tom Moak of Kennewick and Kim Owen of Union Gap have been reappointed to terms effective August 11, 2005, ending July 31, 2007. The council assures that Washington cities and towns have a comprehensive research and service program.

Personnel Resources Board
Lawrence Goodman of Olympia has been appointed to a term effective September 1, 2005, ending January 1, 2007. Goodman is the president of SW Washington Health Systems Agency.
The board governs the state merit system for state agency personnel.

Public Stadium Authority
Lorraine Hine of Lacey has been reappointed as Chair and Fred Mendoza of Normandy Park has been reappointed to terms effective July 29, 2005, ending July 15, 2009. Sue Frost of Kennewick has been reappointed to a term effective August 15, 2005, ending July 15, 2009. The authority is responsible for building and operating a professional football stadium and exhibition center.

Real Estate Commission
George Pilant of Tacoma has been appointed to a term effective August 14, 2005, ending August 13, 2011. Pilant is the branch manager and associate broker at RE/MAX Professionals in North Tacoma. The commission examines and licenses real estate brokers and salespeople; holds educational conferences; and administers examinations once a month at 12 locations throughout the state.

State Board of Health
Karen VanDusen of Clinton has been appointed to a term effective August 12, 2005, ending July 1, 2008. VanDusen is the director of Environmental Safety and Health at the University of Washington. The board is the primary entity for state health policy development; and is required to produce a biennial report delineating the state's health priorities

Washington State Dental Quality Assurance Commission
Terrance Hauck of Spokane has been appointed to a term effective August 12, 2005, ending June 30, 2009. Hauck is a partner and Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon at Cascade Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The commission regulates the competency and quality of dental professionals by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing qualifications for licensure, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms, and discipline.

Washington State Medical Quality Assurance Commission
Ellen Jones Harder of Gig Harbor has been reappointed to a term effective August 12, 2005, ending June 30, 2009. Cabell Tennis of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective August 8, 2005, ending June 30, 2009. The board regulates the competency and quality of medical professionals licensed to practice medicine and surgery by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing qualifications for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms, and discipline.

Work Force Training and Education Coordinating Board
Mike Hudson of Bellingham has been appointed to a term effective August 1, 2005, ending June 30, 2009. Hudson is the executive director for the Institute for Workforce Development and Economic Sustainability. The council provides planning, coordination, evaluation, monitoring, and policy analysis for the state training system. Advises the governor and Legislature concerning the state training system.
